The Wick Poetry Center at Kent State University is pleased to bring their Traveling Stanzas exhibit and creative programs to the 2017 Forum of Regional Association of Grantmakers’ Conference in San Francisco to spark creative ideas and encourage new voices within the national philanthropy community.
Offering a variety of creative tools to connect participants with their own authentic voices and a platform to view and share their poems and reflections, the Wick Poetry Center will facilitate a creative and meaningful conversation around the themes of social and racial equity and philanthropy.
View found poems created from the conference speakers’ texts and reflect on their words. View what others have created at the conference on the Emerge Community page.
During the conference, participants will have the chance to contribute to two live community poems. Follow along with the poems as they grow at the link below.
A curated collection of Traveling Stanzas illustrations from Writing Across Borders will be displayed at the conference. View the collection and reflect on their impact.
The Wick Poetry Center’s Traveling Stanzas workshops, exhibits, and programs bring poetry to people’s everyday lives and encourage new voices through innovative methods and digital platforms to strengthen all sectors of our communities. Providing workshops and facilitated discussions, as well as a suite of creative tools, Traveling Stanzas offers people of all ages and backgrounds innovative ways to connect with their own authentic voices and engage in deeper and more meaningful conversations to promote greater understanding, empathy, and interpersonal connection in any organization or community.
For more information about how to bring Traveling Stanzas to your organization, contact David Hassler, Director, Wick Poetry Center at Kent State University.
Opening at Summit Artspace, Akron, Ohio in January 2018, the exhibit will travel nationally to such venues as schools, hospitals, community centers, and museums, accompanied by a book and educator tool kit. Using the newest digital technology to connect us to one of our oldest technologies— the written word—Traveling Stanzas: Writing Across Borders celebrates the diverse, cultural identity of our democracy and will engage a national, civic dialogue through the intimate and inclusive voice of poetry.
Our interactive digital exhibit will feature touchscreen displays where users can browse poems and videos, share with others (via email and social media platforms) and submit their own short stanza or poetic lines to an ever-growing digital community poem at each site in response to prompts meaningful to the exhibit community.
